Upgrading to StockPiler Version 6.0

Follow these procedures for upgrading to the latest version, (Version 6.0)
of StockPiler. Click here to see version changes history

Upgrade to this Version is FREE for registered StockPiler users.

Current Users of StockPiler Version 5.x.x

Simply download the file:
http://www.spreadsystems.com/updates/stkpiler6_upgrade.exe (1539KB)

This zipped .exe file contains 27 files including the new 'stockPiler.exe', a readme,
an 'Examples' folder with 11 files. It unzips to the default program folder:

C:\Program Files\Spread Systems\StockPiler,

replacing the file 'stockPiler.exe' already in this folder.
Note, if you installed StockPiler in another folder, browse to this folder
during the unzip process.

Users of StockPiler Version 4.4

As some of the table structures have changed going to Version 5.xx,
Version 4.4 users must download and install the entire Version 6.0 program
then copy certain files, and import others

1. Send a request for a new registration code to: apl@spreadsystems.com

2. Protect your data files:

   a. Open your Version 4.4 program. Click on yes when prompted to save backups.
        Then close the program.

   b. Copy your account.dbf file to a non-Spread Systems
        folder on your computer. This file is normally found in the
        c:\program files\Spread Systems\StockPiler\Tables folder.

   c. Copy your entire 'accounts' folder to a non-Spread Systems folder on your computer.
        This folder is normally found in the c:\program files\Spread Systems\StockPiler\
      root directory.

3. Download Version 6.0: http://www.spreadsystems.com/stkp505.exe (7250 KB)

4. Uninstall the current version (to get the old information out of your registry)

5. Delete the c:\program files\Spread Systems\StockPiler folder and any icons
    you may have created.

6. Install Version 6.0

7. Copy the 'account.dbf' file from the location at 2b. above, to the
    c:\...\Spread Systems\StockPiler\Tables folder.

8. Open the program and go to Help (Menu) | Ordering StockPiler, and insert
     your registration code received.

     Click on the folder toolbutton to open an account file. Choose an account,
     click OK.

9. Zap the sample trades that come with the program ;

  a. Click on the red door toolbutton (or menu File|Open Archived trades full view)
       to access the Archived trades. Then File | Zap (Wipe out all trades)

b. Click on the yellow door toolbutton to access current trades. Then
       File | Zap (Wipe out all trades)

10. Now that the tables are empty you populate them with your data by importing
      from 2c. above. Menu item File | Import Portfolio File...StockPiler
     (Current or prior versions) data

a. First import the archived data corresponding to the account chosen. e.g., if you
       are working with the 'mine' account, import the 'mineARC.dbf' file from the location
       you placed this file in 2C. above.
       Then archive it. Menu; File | Store Unstore trades to archive file.

b. Now import data for your currently open trades from the file (in 2C. above) e.g., if you
       are working with the 'mine' account, import the 'mine.dbf' file from the location
       you placed this file in 2C. above.

11. Make any necessary changes to the data if you wish

12. Close the window, open another account, (Click on the folder toolbutton)
      Repeat steps 9 - 12, until all accounts have been imported.

Please note: if you simply copy the filenames from the old account folder to the new
The program will not function, as table structures have changed going from Version
4.4 to Version 5.xx (6.0 is same as 5.xx). You must follow steps 9 - 12.

StockPiler Version 4.xx (Other than Version 4.4)

As some of the table structures have changed going to Version 6.0,
Version 4 users must download and install the entire Version 6.0 program:

1. Send a request for a new registration code to: apl@spreadsystems.com

2. Protect your data files: Copy your trading.dbf and your tarchive.dbf
     files to a non-Spread Systems folder on your computer. These files are
     normally found in the c:\program files\Spread Systems\StockPiler\Tables
     folder.

3. Download Version 6.0: http://www.spreadsystems.com/stkp505.exe (7250 KB)

4. Uninstall the current version (to get the old information out of your registry)

5. Delete the c:\program files\Spread Systems\StockPiler folder and any icons
     you may have created.

6. Install Version 6.0

7. Open the program and go to Help (Menu) | Ordering StockPiler, and insert
      your registration code received.

8. One of the features of Version 6.0 is now users can manage different
     accounts separately example, son, mine, daughter, mother-in-law etc. Only
     one account may be accessed at a time, and to start inputting data,
     an account file must be opened.

    Click on the folder toolbutton to open an account file. Choose the account,
    click OK.

9.   Zap the sample trades that come with the program (Note you must do this for
      each account you access otherwise you will have sample trades mixed in with
      your real trades)

       Click on the red door toolbutton (or menu File|Open Archived trades full view)
       to access the Archived trades. Then File | Zap (Wipe out all trades)

   Click on the yellow door toolbutton to access current trades. Then
     File | Zap (Wipe out all trades)

10. Now that the tables are empty you populate them with data by importing your
      data from 2. above. Menu item File | Import Portfolio File...StockPiler
      (Current or prior versions) data

       First import the tarchive.dbf data (from the location
       you placed this file in 2. above), then archive it - Menu; File | Store Unstore
       trades to archive file.

      Then import data from the trading.dbf file (from the location
       you placed this file in 2. above).

11. Make any necessary changes to the data if you wish

12. Update your backup files (File | Update backup files).
      Optionally you may update the backup files by closing the program and
      updating the backups upon re-opening)
